I have been practicing the art of mosaic since 2004. I was working as a systems analyst and manager at a newspaper and was in need of something that would be a creative outlet, to help me manage the stress of my “day job.” I took a six-hour class to make a small mosaic table. I walked out with my table, my bag of grout and the absolute certainty that I had found what I was looking for. In those six hours, all that mattered were the tiles, the colors, the shapes, and those wonderful tile nippers. I moved to Washington and with a studio space began truly exploring mosaic. I enjoy incorporating vintage china, buttons, beads, shells, Italian glass and ceramic tile as well as stained glass into my mosaics. I have also just begun working with broken pottery, rocks, gems and stones. I owe my love of mosaic to my father. For over 60 years my father worked on his hands and knees installing beautiful tile, marble, granite counter tops, showers, mosaic entries and beautiful floors. He truly loved what he did and worked very hard at it. I am fortunate that his passion has been passed on to me.
